Presently there are more than 135 Post-Graduate students are studying in 4 different Courses including Geology, Geophysics, Environmental Science, and Geography in the School of Earth Sciences. Additionally, the School runs Post-Graduate Diploma Course in Geoinformatics and Certificate Course in Industrial Safety and Occupational Health.
Fifty Eight Research Scholars from the School of Earth Sciences have been awarded Doctoral Degrees and presently around fifty Ph.D and M.Phil Scholars have been carrying out cutting-edge fundamental and societal-driven research in the School of Earth Sciences. Many of the scholars earned DST-INSPIRE, CSIR, UGC, ICSSR, BARTI, RGNF and other fellowships for conducting their research. The fact that the School has published more than 120 research papers in the last 5 years in reputed high-impact national and international journals ouches for the quality of research being carried out in the School of Earth Sciences.
Research Thrust Areas in the School of Earth Sciences include: microbiological Evaluation of Fresh Water Quality, Fluoride Contamination of Ground Water, Ground Water Pollution, Land use Mapping, Environmental Education, Disaster Management, Social and Settlement Geography, Crop and Soil Geography, Water Resource Planning for Agriculture, Agro-Climatology, Seismological Data Modelling for Structure & Tectonics, Geophysical Applications for Ground Water and Mineral Resources, Geochemical modelling of Magmatic Sedimentary processes.
Currently twelve permanent faculty members (albeit two faculty members retired recently) and eight contributory faculty offer their expertise in different branches of Earth Sciences. The faculty members of the School of Earth Sciences have earned laurels and recognitions at Institutional, State, National and International Levels. To name a few: INSA Teacher Award (2018), Government of Maharashtra Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi Vyasanmukti Seva Puraskar for Social Work (2018), European Association Geoscientists & Engineers – PACE-Award (2013, 2016 and 2019), Maharashtra Best Teacher Award (2009-10 and 2013-14), SRTMU Best teacher award (2010-11 and 2013-14), National Geoscience Award, Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India (2013), JGSI-B.P. Radhakrishna award (2009), Indo-US Research Fellowship (2008-2009), BOYSCAST (2000-2001) Fellowship. The faculty members of the School of Earth Sciences are Fellows of the Geological Society of India, Indian Geophysical Union, and other scientific bodies.
