About Workshop

The university intends to assist and promote objective research in the Social Sciences and Humanities. In this direction the Department of Geography, School of Earth Sciences and School of Management Sciences are jointly organizing a Ten Days National Level workshop. The course intends to strengthen the academic talent pool of the participants who are M.Phil and Ph.D Scholars enrolled in recognized Indian universities.The core objective of this workshop into help the participants for understanding the essential skills required to conduct a scientific research based on empirical data. The workshop will focus on theoretical and philosophical dimensionsas well as varied practical aspects of research that a researcher encounters during accomplishment of research such as defining research problems, framing research questions, formulation of hypothesis, exploring data sources, data collection methods and tools, data analysis techniques and various aspects related with report writing. This workshop is sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research, Western RegionalCentre(WRC), Mumbai.

Objectives of Workshop:

• To orient the participants about the significance of research in social sciences for overall development of societies, maintaining socio-economical balance.
• To familiarize on philosophical and theoretical dimensions of social sciences in general and research in particular.
• To deliberate on the aspects of researching theme, formulating research questions and objectives, setting research design and other components of research proposal.
• To interact with the participants on various research methods and techniques of data collection and data analysis and interpretation.
• To deliberate on bestowing final shape of research output in the fornt of research report.

THE SRTM UNIVERSITY

Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded was established on September 17, 1994 by the Government of Maharashtra. The University caters to the southern part of the Marathwada region of Maharashtra covering four districts including Nanded, Latur, Parbhani and Hingoli. The SRTM University has 16 Schools on campus, 4 schools at sub-campus, Latur and a sub-campus at Parbhani; a constituent New Model Degree College at Hingoli. The University has 300 plus affiliated colleges under its jurisdiction offering 146 programs. The University hosts more than 70 foreign students across five countries. The University received financial assistance from RUSA, DST, UGC, ISRO among others.
The SRTM University, Faculty members have invented, patented and commercialized many ideas. The University boasts a Centre of Excellence in Seismology, advanced research instrumentation facilities, collaboration with Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics and MoUs with national and international institutions. The SRTM University has signed a MoU with the Virtual Labs project, an initiative of MHRD, NMEICT, IIT Delhi, and IIT Bombay. This will allow a paradigm shift in ICT-based education in the University.

SCHOOL OF EARTH SCIENCES

The School of Earth Sciences is one of the first Schools to be initiated in the newly established SRTM University. Presently there are more than 165 Post Graduate students studying in 4 different Courses including Geology, Geophysics, Environmental Science and Geography in the School of Earth Sciences. Additionally, the School runs 2 Post-Graduate Diploma Courses in Geoinformatics and Mining and 2 Certificate Courses in Industrial Safety and Occupational Health and Water Literacy. Many of the scholars earned DST-INSPIRE, CSIR, UGC, ICSSR, BARTI, RGNF and other fellowships for conducting their research. The Faculty members of the School are well-qualified with national and international reputation and have earned laurels and recognitions at local to global level.
The School is recognized by the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) as the First International Student Chapter outside USA. The School has Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and academic collaborations with many National and International institutions including NGRI, IIG, NCS, ISR, INCOIS, AMD, IITM,NEERI and GSDA. The School is funded by UGC-SAP, DST-FIST, RUSA, ICSSR and UGC-Innovative programs. The School of Earth Sciences has generated funds to the tune of 5 crores through research projects. Centre of Excellence in Seismology (a RUSA initiative) is recently been established in the School of Earth Sciences.

SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

The School of Management Sciences started in year 2007 for nurturing the talent pool in the Marathwada region, especially of rural youth. It is a programme designed to prepare candidates to take up managerial positions in technology oriented global enterprises. The curriculum provides both the technical skills and business acumen to succeed in today's constantly changing digital world. Providing quality management education to students, helping them to secure a rewarding position in the corporate world and making them successful entrepreneurs are the foremost objectives of this school.
